God’s Speed

Pacing at God’s Speed

If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed.” – 2 John 1:10

Speed is essential in life because it is relative to time, and TIME is the unit of destiny. Accomplishing your God-given purpose at the right time is the true fulfillment of life. Many accomplishments in life today come too late. Some repentance was too late and couldn’t produce salvation. Some investments came too late and couldn’t yield profits. Some sacrifices and efforts came too late and could not bring about the desired result. The scriptures admonish, “seek the Lord while He may be found…” (Isaiah 55:6), meaning there could be a time when finding God would be impossible even if you seek.

It is therefore important that we do life at God’s speed. To go ahead of God is dangerous, and going behind God’s schedule and plan is also disastrous. God’s speed is at God’s pace and moving at the pace of God can never miss the mark. Some are indeed running a life race at great speed, only that they are gaining speed in the wrong direction – and “there is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” (Prov 14:12). Not all speeds are good speeds. “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord and He delights in his way” (Ps 37:23).

Ecclesiastes 9:11 (NLT) therefore submits: “I have observed something else under the sun; the fastest runner doesn’t always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn’t always win the battle. The wisest sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don’t always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time.” Being at the right place at the right time can only be achieved by walking at the pace of God.

Being at the right place at the right time and fulfilling the right purpose of God is the whole essence of a glorious and accomplished life. 2 John 1:9-10, therefore, admonishes us to only bid God’s speed to people who will do God’s will by abiding in the doctrine of Christ. Abide by walking at the pace of God; your steps shall always be ordered by God.

Shalom – Peace be unto you!
