“O God, You are my God; early will I seek You: my soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You….to see Your power and Your glory” Psalm 63:1-2
Creation exists to manifest the glory, beauty and perfection of God. God created humans for His glory (Psalm 43:7). The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands (Psalms 19:1-2). It is concerning why many believers do not manifest the fullness of God’s power and glory. Excerpt from Kathryn Kuhlman’s message, as shared below, highlights some possible hindrances that prevent believers from walking in God’s power. These are the 7 “lacks” that impoverish a believer’s spirit:
1. Lack of surrender – Many believers have not yet surrendered fully to the Holy Spirit. They have the Spirit, but the Spirit doesn’t fully have them. We cannot experience the fullness of God while holding on to pieces of self. We cannot truly walk in authority when our flesh is still in control. You may carry the Spirit, but does the Spirit carry you?
2. Lack of awareness of spiritual identity – Walking in God’s power requires awareness. You cannot walk in what you do not understand. The Holy Spirit not only empowers us but also defines who we are. When we lack understanding of our identity, we will live beneath what God has already given us. Until revelation becomes reality, the power within us remains unused potential. Power flows from identity because authority is rooted in awareness. The more you understand your identity, the less you seek validation.
3. Lack of God’s Word – The Spirit works through the scriptures. The Holy Spirit moves along the pathway of God’s word. He operates through the truth. The Word reveals God’s will, and the Spirit gives us power to live it. We cannot expect to walk in power when our souls are disconnected from the revelation of the word. When we internalize the word, the Spirit magnifies our authority. Power begins when we speak what God has already declared.
4. Lack of inner purity – Spiritual decadence begins when a believer’s spirit is contaminated by ungodly living, habits and attitudes. Heb 12:1 says we should avoid easily besetting sins and weight. Power cannot move through polluted channels. Many believers do not lack the Spirit; they lack spiritual flow due to impurities that are blocking their channels of spiritual grace. The power is sustained not by performance but by purity. A polluted vessel cannot carry a holy oil. You cannot host heaven while holding on to darkness within. Forgiveness is the key that unlocks the flow of divine power. Purity and Power are two inseparable factors that validate the flow of grace.
5. Lack of effectual fervent prayer life – Power fails when communication is lost. Prayer is not a ritual; it is the lifeline of the spirit. When prayer weakens, power weakens. When communication stops, connection fades. And when the connection fades, authority disappears. Prayers open heaven into our everyday life. Every time we pray, we connect the natural with the supernatural, creating space for God to move. Prayer is not about how long, but how real.
6. Lack of Spiritual hunger – Power cannot survive in comfort zones. Woe to those who are at ease in Zion (Amos 6:1). The power of the Holy Spirit was never meant to settle in comfort. The Spirit advances wherever He flows. He does not stop at any accomplishment. You cannot carry heaven’s fire while living in lukewarmness. The Spirit does not empower those who embrace passivity. He does not dwell in comfort. He dwells in commitment. When hunger disappears, spiritual activities slow. The Spirit responds to thirsts. He fills what is empty, not what is full. Blessed are those who are hungry and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled (Matt 5:6). We cannot be filled when we are full of self, satisfaction and routines. The Spirit is drawn to those who are desperate for more. Power begins where comfort ends.
7. Lack of obedience – The Spirit only empowers those who follow His voice. We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him (Acts 5:32). Power does not just reside; He responds to obedience. The Holy Spirit only leads; He does not follow. He empowers direction, not resistance. Many believers seek new revelation without a willingness to act on the last instruction they received. The Spirit does not empower rebellion; He empowers alignment. You cannot expect divine partnership while holding onto stubbornness. Obedience is heaven’s language of love. It connects potential to manifestations. Every act of obedience turns you into God’s channels of purpose. The anointing increases in the soil of obedience. Jesus says, “If you love me, keep my commandment”. Love is not proven by emotion; it is proven by obedience. When you follow God without full understanding, heaven releases what you cannot produce on your own. Power is heaven’s response to trust. Every step of surrender expands your capacity. When you walk in alignment with the Spirit, His strength becomes your strategies. You begin to operate beyond yourself, speaking beyond your wisdom, loving beyond your limit. Obedience unlocks overflow.
